Pediatric Behavioral Health Care Manager - LCSW

Position Title: Pediatric Behavioral Health Care Manager/ Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Department: Behavioral Health Services
Reports to: Director of Behavioral Health

Purpose of Position:
The Pediatric Behavioral Health Care Manager/Licensed Clinical Social Worker will provide a dual role as part of a formal collaboration between our client and the UT Southwestern Department of Psychiatry.  This position will specialize in helping pediatric patients and their families manage pediatric behavioral health conditions and stressors, providing support for the pediatric clinicians at our client’s Pediatric department.  This position will provide clinical assessments and screenings, treatment planning, short-term counseling and strategic interventions with the child, family and caregivers in collaboration with the care team at UT Southwestern Department of Psychiatry. This position could also provide brief counseling for adolescents, children and families and consults with patient's pediatric clinicians as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pediatric Behavioral Health Care Manager/Licensed Clinical Social Worker Duties:
  • Provide immediate in-person or telehealth assessments of pediatric patients who are identified as in need of behavioral health services. 
  • Accurately record patient mental health history, progress notes, and referrals in medical record according to protocol.
  • Consult with pediatric clinicians regarding the diagnosis and treatment plan of pediatric patients in conjunction with the Psychiatric Consultant at UT Southwestern.
  • Assist in the detection of “at risk” patients and prevent further psychiatric or physical deterioration.
  • Provide ongoing in-person and telehealth support to children and families to assure treatment goals are met.
  • Effectively communicate with pediatric clinicians as necessary to keep them up-to-date on treatment plans and progress and providing training as needed on identification of behavioral health issues. 
  • Provide educational information and strategies to pediatric patients for mental health management, coping, and self-care.
  • Develop strong partnerships with pediatric clinicians and function as their behavioral health expert, providing consultation and support on all behavioral health issues by applying specialized advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders, conditions and addictions including serious emotional disturbances in children. 
  • Conduct clinical interviews with clients and their relatives in order to elicit information regarding attitudes, social background, developmental history, and other psychiatrically relevant material.
  • Assist clients in exploring and gaining an insight into their personality and emotional difficulty, helping them resolve their conflicts, and arriving at more effective ways of coping with their environment. 
  • Determine, administer, and score the appropriate tests and diagnostic procedures to be used. 
  • Establish a good working relationship with pediatric patients and their families and/or care givers.
  • Submit charges for assessments and services when appropriate in accordance with billing policies and procedures. 
  • Utilize and maintain a caseload tracking software that is a registry for managing behavioral health caseloads in integrated care settings. This will require data input on patient information, behavioral health visit dates, symptom scores and psychiatric case review dates.
  • Attend and address meetings of professional groups.
  • Improve pediatric clinical outcomes with high prevalence of mental disorders. 
  • Identify problems related to patient services and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Give expert court testimony in cases involving mental deficiency or illness commitment proceeding if required.
  • Participate in evaluation of peers.
  • Participate in patient case review process.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and Quality Improvement activities as required.
  • The Pediatric Behavioral Health Care Manager/LCSW will act as a member of the care team and work in collaboration with other health team members and is responsible for assisting in the promotion of the health and wellbeing of a panel of patients.
  • Employee will participate in ongoing training activities as provided by the organization related to assigned tasks and providing patient-centered care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including administrative duties, critical incident stress interventions, and special projects as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required
  • Ability to read, write, understand medical terminology
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practice, primarily health data privacy and security standards
  • Thorough knowledge of maternal and child health, parenting issues, communication skills, family dynamics, and substance abuse
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan and organize work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well with all staff, community, and volunteers, including mentoring and supervising social work students
Preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Credentials and Experience
Required
  • Masters in Social Work from an accredited Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) program
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Texas, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Valid Driver’s License in the State of Texas
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
