The Occupational Therapist provides professional Occupational Therapy services in the critical access hospital setting, including acute care, outpatient, inpatient, and long term care patients.

Essential Functions
  • Meet patient goals and needs while providing quality care across a variety of settings.
  • Assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results.
  • Determine occupational therapy treatment plans in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and/or by prescription.
  • Reassess and modify patient treatment plans and goals as appropriate.
  • Help patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning, or adjust to disability, by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
  • Direct aides, technicians, and assistants appropriately.
  • Promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to the individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
  • Prepare patients for return to employment by consulting with employers, determining potential workplace challenges, retraining employees and by helping employers understand limitations and modifying necessary work tasks to accommodate employee.
  • Evaluate results and update plan of care by observing, noting, and assessing patient's progress, and by recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and departmental records.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all patient care sessions.
  • Ensure documentation is completed within a timely manner.
  • Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers as appropriate; contribute to patient care conferences.
  • Assure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommend and/or provide assistive equipment; recommend outpatient or home health follow up programs.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new regulations; anticipating future regulations; adhering to such regulations; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Oversee daily occupational therapy operations and work cooperatively with other hospital departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered Colorado Occupational Therapist license required.
  • BLS is required within three (3) months of hire or transfer.
  • Previous experience working as an occupational therapist preferred.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move and traverse about the facility 50% of the time. Frequently transport objects weighing up to S0lbs

  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information in a way others will understand.
  • Must be able to recognize details such as color and depth within a few feet of the observer.
  • Frequently operates computers, machinery, and other healthcare equipment. Constantly positions self to complete essential functions.
  • May be required to wear N95s or PAPRs throughout the shift.
