PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse - RN

Registered Nurse PreOp/PACU Job Description
Reports to: Surgical Services Director
FLSA Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt, Hourly

Essential Functions
  • Assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery
  • Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
  • Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedures
  • Initiate IVs
  • Assess patients’ post-operative condition
  • Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress, meeting discharge criteria
  • Accurately chart findings and progress in patient chart
  • Answer patient questions and ensure patient comfort before and after surgical procedures
  • Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
  • Perform intervention duties as assigned during post-operative emergencies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Current, unencumbered Colorado RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required within three (3) months of hire or transfer

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary positon 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move and traverse about the facility 50% of the time.
  • Frequently transport objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • Occasionally position objects weighing up to 100lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information in a way others will understand.
  • Must be able to recognize details such as color and depth within a few feet of the observer.
  • Frequently operates computers, machinery, and other healthcare equipment.
  • Constantly positions self to complete essential functions.
  • May be required to wear N95s or PAPRs throughout the shift.
